How caregiver frustration with the status quo inspired a push for change.

Pacific Diabetes Technologies was founded by physicians and scientists who were frustrated! This dissatisfaction with the status quo arose from the fact that, although largely preventable, vision loss, kidney failure, and limb loss are still common in people with diabetes. Even though the use of continuous glucose (blood sugar) monitoring and insulin treatment together reduce the risk for these complications, less than one-third of people with insulin-treated diabetes consistently use both procedures. Why? Because the need to use two skin-piercing devices on a daily basis is very cumbersome (and costly).

PDT has now developed the only device in the world that can bring continuous glucose monitoring and insulin delivery together in a single through-the-skin device. Everyone who delivers insulin with a PDT integrated device will experience the benefit of continuous glucose monitoring 24/7/365. This innovation will translate into a marked reduction in the risks of severe low blood sugar and complications of the eyes, kidneys, limbs, and heart. Most importantly, it will simplify diabetes management and lessen the human impact of diabetes at the personal, family and community levels.
